Meet with success - start to finish. Serving the scientific community since 1978, we've made meetings run smoothly - coordinating every detail from selecting the venue, negotiating contracts with hotels and caterers, arranging travel, convention and meeting space, setting up poster sessions and receptions, handling pre- and on-site registration to checking and double checking logistics. What's more, we do it all with your budget in mind.

Meetings for 12 to 1,200. From large conferences to small workshops, we plan them all. Regardless of size, JOSS approaches each meeting with the desire to innovate, using its experience and initiative to discover new and improved ways of carrying out complex efforts. From attendee tracking tools, teleconferencing, web casting, on-line registration to more traditional meeting management tactics, our aim is to reduce and save time.

Publication Creation

You write it. We take it from there. It's your baby. Your publication. And you want it to look like a million bucks, but you don't have that kind of money to spend. JOSS will work with you to produce professional quality publications either in-house or through contracting services for timely, cost-effective results.

Design, edit and print. We'll publish your piece following scientific mandates, then oversee the complete publication process. Publication services range from electronic preparation of journals to abstracts and on-site meeting documentation, webpage support, and everything in between. We're also able to warehouse inventory, disseminating publications as needed by mail or at meetings.

Budgetary Reporting

Your proposal was accepted. Now what?
There are costs to consider and a budget to meet. But you need to get to work on your project. And funders often monitor monthly or quarterly reports to keep them informed as their money is spent.

Relax. JOSS not only develops the budget, we'll administer it to get the best value for the available funding. And we'll provide efficient, effective methods to transfer funds to maximize financial support. JOSS offers regular reporting so you'll stay in budget without the worries.

Did we mention cost-effective? JOSS keeps up to date on new trends to identify cost efficiencies. We report all levels (summary to detail), striving for accurate and timely reporting tailored to your needs. We also work with Federal program managers to provide budgetary planning based on historical data, expenditure projections and industry financial trends.

Special Staffing

Scientists learn. As part of our education and outreach commitment, we place staff on-site as term employees. JOSS provides scientific, technical and programmatic expertise to several national and international projects.

Programs benefit. These young, educated professionals, new in their careers, are recruited as UCAR employees to work in the broader scientific community and government agencies for short terms on highly focused problems. The goal is two-fold: (1) to provide the services of a highly talented workforce for short term specialized tasks and (2) to provide young professionals with the experience in the workings of organizations and US agencies that will be useful to them in future career endeavors in the scientific community.

Administrative

JOSS provides a broad range of administrative program support services.  In recent years, the number of multidisciplinary projects in the atmospheric and related sciences has been increasing.  Thus, JOSS has expanded its project administrative skill sets to accommodate more than one discipline in a single project, including meteorology, oceanography, hydrology, atmospheric chemistry, ecology, biology, education, fisheries, and human dimensions/sustainability.

Specialized Field Logistics

What JOSS can do for you.  Provide specialized logistic support to field observing campaigns from the planning stage through the post-campaign research workshops.  Over the past two decades, scores of projects of many scales and complexities have been supported around the world.  Campaign support is tailored to the special requirements and needs of individual projects.

Providing sound cost-effective campaign support. Coordinating and administering a wide range of logistical support tasks in a sound, cost-effective, orderly, and efficient manner.  Tasks that include shipping, customs clearance, immigration, tax exemptions, shipment and importation of  hazardous materials, research ship support, travel, financial services, local staffing, and service contracts.
