JOSS, and the entire UCAR/NCAR community, was saddened by the sudden passing of JOSS's Director, Gene Martin, on August 3, 2011. Gene served as JOSS Deputy Director since the 1990's, and then Director, since 2005. Gene's career at UCAR/NCAR started in 1978.

Karyn's career at UCAR/NCAR started in 1972. She founded JOSS in the early 1980's, and between 2005 and 2011 held various positions in EOL and NESL, before returning as JOSS Director in August, 2011.
