WCRP Open Science Conference Sponsorship Program

Sponsorship of the WCRP Open Science Conference is an opportunity to make an impact on the international climate change research community.

Contact Cindy Schmidt at cschmidt@ucar.edu or 303.497.2107 for more information and/or to become a sponsor.

What is the WCRP?
The World Climate Research Program is the international forum for thousands of climate scientists worldwide to determine and improve our ability to predict climate and to discern human impacts on climate. Over the past 30 years the WCRP has greatly increased our scientific understanding of Earth’s climate. It has helped develop state of the art climate observing networks, models and data analyses that are being used around the world for practical applications. The resulting climate research enterprise findings and capabilities are also the foundation for environmental assessments such as the WMO/UNEP Assessment of Ozone Depletion/Recovery and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment reports on climate change. WCRP products significantly contributed to the recently published reviews of the state of the cryosphere on polar climate. WCRP will also contribute to the assessments of sea-level variability and change.

Why should you support the Open Science Conference?
By sponsoring conference events and costs, you will acknowledge the vital nature of global climate change research and show your support for continued climate change research in service to global society.

Who will be speaking and why are they relevant?
International science leaders, policy makers and stakeholders from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, will be featured.

Who will participate?
A broad segment of the international climate research science community will be presenting posters. $100,000 in funding has been made available by the WCRP to bring early career climate scientists to participate in the workshop.

What is the local Colorado tie in?
Staff from the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), located in Boulder, CO are local hosts and scientific chairs for the Open Science Conference. This is an opportunity for local as well as international partnership.

Will this be a “green” event?
The WCRP Open Science Conference is committed to reducing the environmental impacts of such a large international event. Sponsors, attendees and contributors will be asked to follow a set of best practices in order to conserve natural resources as well as promote environmental sustainability.
