We will be meeting in the West-End Ballroom, located on the 2nd floor.


LODGING
Please note a block of rooms is being held for our group at the Washington Marriott for the nights of 6-7 December. The block is at the government rate, $188.00/night plus 14.5% tax (Total $215.26).

All reservations are being handled by Brian Jackson at UCAR via a rooming list with the hotel.

Federal attendees - Please forward your arrival and departures dates and any special hotel requests to Brian Jackson (303-497-8663, bjackson_at_ucar.edu) by C.O.B. Wednesday, 22 November 2006. Brian will send you your confirmation number approximately two weeks before the meeting. You will be responsible for your own room and tax charges as well as all incidental expenses.

UCAR-supported attendees - See TRAVEL below. Your room and tax charges will be direct-billed to UCAR, but you are responsible for all incidental expenses.

Check-in time: 4:00 p.m.
Check-out time: 1:00 p.m.

Cancellation Policy: Reservations must be canceled by 6:00 p.m. on the scheduled day of arrival to avoid a no-show charge. Please contact Brian to cancel or change your reservation. Should you need to have your reservation cancelled, you will be provided with a cancellation number.

The CONUS M&IE rate for the District of Columbia currently is $64.00.


WORKING LUNCH
There will be a working lunch on Thursday, 7 December. Federal participants are requested to pay a registration fee of $18.00 (the "meals" portion of metro D.C. per diem); It is now possible to pay UCAR via the Internet; please note that UCAR accepts Visa and Master Card only.

  1. Please proceed to https://www.fin.ucar.edu/epayment/startEpayments.do

  2. Under "Payment Select", click on "Other Items" and then from the drop-down menu, choose "DAARWG Working Lunch - D.C.", and then click on the "Next" button.

  3. On the following screen, enter the amount above and fill in your billing information. When you are ready, click on the "Start Process" button.

  4. You will receive an e-mail confirming your payment.


    If you prefer to pay by check, please make your check payable to "UCAR" and send it to Brian Jackson, UCAR-JOSS, P.O. Box 3000, Boulder, CO 80307. I will mail receipts to those who request one, following the meeting.

UCAR-supported participants will have $18.00 deducted from their travel reimbursements.


AUDIO VISUAL (Updated 11/15/06)
The hotel offers a Wired-for-Business package; for a set daily rate of $9.95 (12:00 noon - 12:00 a.m.). In your guest room you get:

  1. High-speed Internet access
  2. Unlimited local phone calls
  3. Unlimited long-distance calls (within the U.S.)

NOTE: There will be wireless Internet access in the meeting room.

Wireless access is available in the lobby, foyer areas and other public spaces at a cost of $2.95 for the first 15 minutes. Payment is computer and credit card only.


PRESENTATIONS (Updated 11/15/06)
An Apple OSX Titanium laptop will be used for all presentation projections. However, if your PowerPoint presentation was prepared on a PC and contains animations, please plan to use your own PC laptop to make your presentation.

    NOTE: If you are making a presentation at the Meeting, please send an electronic copy of it to Brian no later than C.O.B., Monday, 4 December. If you are unable to send your presentation by that time, please plan to bring 16 hard copies of it with you to the meeting.


DIRECTIONS
The Washington Marriott is located at 1221 22nd St., N.W., the corner of 22nd and M Streets, in Washington.

Metro: Foggy Bottom/GWU (Blue and Orange lines) is the closest stop, approximately 3 blocks southwest from the hotel.


DRIVING DIRECTIONS
Washington, DC/National/ Reagan Airport - DCA

  • Hotel Direction: 5 miles Northeast
  • Take George Washington Parkway West. Follow signs to Memorial Bridge.
  • Cross over Memorial Bridge. At the End of the Bridge bear left.
  • Take first left onto 23rd Street. Follow 23rd Street, NW and turn right onto I Street, N.W.
  • Take the first left onto 22nd Street, NW.
  • The Washington Marriott is five blocks ahead on the right side on 22nd Street.
  • Estimated taxi fare: $12 (one way)

Washington, DC/Dulles - IAD

  • Hotel Direction: 25 mi SE
  • Follow the signs to Interstate 66 east to Washington.
  • Follow I-66 to the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge (US Route 50).
  • Once you cross the bridge, I-66 becomes Constitution Ave.
  • Turn left off of Constitution Ave. on to 18th Street.
  • Turn left on M St. and right on 22nd.
  • The hotel is ahead on the right.
  • Estimated taxi fare: $45 (one way)

Baltimore-Washington International - BWI

  • Hotel Direction: 40 mi S
  • Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway South (MD 295) to US 50 west (New York Ave.).
  • Turn Right off of New York Ave. on to Massachusetts Ave. At Thomas Cir.
  • Take the circle 3/4 around and exit M St. Follow M to 22nd.
  • Turn right on to 22nd, the hotel is on the right.
  • Estimated taxi fare: $55 (one way)


ONSITE PARKING
On-site parking, fee: $5.00 hourly; $23.00 daily

    FEDERAL ATTENDEES are responsible for their own travel arrangements (see LODGING above).

    NON-FEDERAL ATTENDEES - All travel arrangements will be handled by Brian Jackson through UCAR. Please contact Brian bjackson@ucar.edu as soon as possible regarding your travel plans, if you have not done so already. Please include the following information:

    • preferred dates and departure times
    • preferred departure airport
    • your name as it appears on your driver's license
