Colleagues, I wanted to congratulate the organizers and the participants in OEUVRE for their outstanding contribution to Ocean Ecology. The content of the report was both exciting and thought provoking, but I wanted to call special attention to the value of the process for stimulating the development of the field. The task of reaching a consensus among a diverse array skeptical scientists is always daunting. But to do so in a short meeting is testimony to the skill of the organizers and the cooperative spirit of the participants. The ocean ecology community is indebted to all for your insight and foresight. Our science will be stronger and more focused as a result of your efforts.
